March 2021 - Season success

A strong and happy finish to the 2020/21 season that started out with so much hesitation due to COVID19.

Congratulations go to the Div 4 girls team that took the premiership for the season and played super well.

Our seniors Div 1 Ladies Traditional and Div 2 Mens Traditional also took the Gold medal for the season and had a wonderful time.

At the presentation celebration on Sunday 28 March held at the Lobethal Recreation Ground we congratulated all teams and thanked them for playing regardless of all scores.  We had the Hot shots kids receive a participation medal, also given were the Coaches Award, Rising star award, Klose's player of the year award, along with awards for the best senior player in the day comp and also the night competition.

Olivia and Scott Hughes our coaches were just fabulous once again, we are so lucky to have them as part of the club and would not be the club we are without them.  Thanks Scott and Liv

Eric Harrison has completed his first year as President and has really done a great job.  Eric was awarded the Lou Dicker award for contribution to the club.

From here the committee works quietly on tidying up the season and making a few plans for the next season.

The AGM is the next meeting on the Agenda in July.  We would like to welcome any newcomers to the committee and thank you for taking part in the community.

MARCH

FINALS TIME

Our Friday/Saturday competitions have now wrapped up and we have four teams preparing to play a final this weekend.
Summer Nights 2021 are part way through with just a few games left.

Congratulations to Jenna Barry (pictured above right) who played in the Regional SA team earlier this year & claimed the Inaugural SA Regional v City teams title.  Jenna also won individual girls Tier 1 event for her age group.

Fletcher (pictured above left) finished 2nd for 12 & under boys.  Well done Fletcher.

We have been fortunate enough amidst the COVID restrictions to finish off the 20/21 season without too many hiccups. Thanks to everyone for doing your bit and observing the plans that all the Hills clubs have had to put together.  Our players have played incredibly well, some have made the finals & for others it’s often said that a score is not an accurate reflection of how someone plays. The score sheet doesn’t always  indicate how many great rallies that were played or that the games were all tight or that it was the first time two players combined for
doubles together.

Regardless of your team or individual scores, all players should be proud of their achievements.

DECEMBER 2019

The countdown to Christmas has begun and we have only a few more weekends of tennis before we break for the festive season

The season has been progressing well to date and the weather has been reasonably kind for our players and coaches. We have 11 Hot Shotters in our program this year and our junior coaching numbers are continuing to grow so Scott and Olivia are keeping very busy on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Our committee have decided to add some permanent seating for players and spectators on courts 3 and 4 and we hope to have this installed for the second half of the season.   We are also planning our end of season raffle and intend to offer some prizes from local businesses again this year.

Registration for January 2020 Country Carnival (juniors and seniors) is now open.  If you are looking for something to do in the school holidays, this is a great country tennis event and HTA covers the cost for juniors to register.

Please enjoy the read and on behalf of the Committee, we wish all friends of the Lobethal Tennis Club a wonderful Christmas and a happy, safe and prosperous 2020.

October 2019

The tennis season has begun and we saw all 4 Lobethal teams out after dark playing in the Tuesday Night tennis competition playing mixed doubles.    This weekend the seniors start on Saturday afternoons and next week Juniors coaching and competition start.

Juniors - Friday night tennis has been a popular addition to the junior schedule and whilst we are continuing with the Orange and Green Ball competitions, this season Friday night matches will be extended to Division One for both girls and boys.  HTA will coordinate junior teams for Country Carnival once again this year.  Registration will be available via HTA website and we will inform all our members when this has opened.  Country Carnival will be held at Kensington Lawn Tennis club again this year commencing January 9th.

Uniforms - The club has offered all players a subsidized Lobethal Tennis club shirt.  if you have not taken up this offer at the come & try registration day, Worklocker in Mt Barker can take your order and we will reimburse part costs on receipt.

And we are thrilled to announce our Gold sponsors this year are Kleemann funerals, Lobethal Community Pharmacy, Hughes Construction, Thomas foods international and John Gardner MP.  Klose's supermarkets remains our Platinum sponsor and we are ever grateful for the support of these community minded entity's.  thank you for all the active sport support.

August 2019

Our AGM is complete and the committee is in good form and we are all working towards the next Tennis season.  First on the Agenda is the Registration & Come & Try day on Sunday 25 August, 10am to midday.

Please come along to the Tennis Courts on the Sunday just to say Hi and register your interest or your team.  Night tennis on Tuesday nights is very popular, so the sooner you get your name down the better.

Tennis teams for both junior and senior, need to be submitted to the Hills Tennis Association in early September, and we will then open up the courts for some casual practice before the Season starts after the long weekend in October.

Coaching - Thankyou to Scott & Oliva Hughes - Tuesday & Wednesday coaching afternoons and Hot Shots was amazing. 50 kids in coaching this year and alot of coordination required. Thank you to Olivia for fitting this in with Year 12 last year also.  With over 100 playing members in competition over Tuesday & Friday nights, Saturday morning and afternoons, it has been a highly successful and busy season.  Of the 10 Junior teams in the competition from Orange ball to Green ball & juniors comps, 9 of the teams made it into Finals. We finished the season with a Presentation night with awards and dinner and our No.1 player Simon Jaensch presenting awards to the best juniors in the club, and Scott and Oliva looking after their juniors also.  Our aim is to get more of the juniors to play up in seniors and keep our club strong and healthy.

This last season we were successful in gaining a grant for Screens from: Office o f Recreation & Sport & the Adelaide Hills Council along with a further  Grant for program & equipment.  Our club is stronger for having the support from these funding bodies.  Thank you so much.

With our courts parters of the Lobethal Netball club we were able to achieve Lino on the floor of the canteen, cupboards, BBQ tables, garden beds, screens on courts, new locks on shed doors, outside scensor light to name a few all in our beautiful surroundings of the Lobethal Recreation Ground.

WELL PLAYED TIGERS

December 2017

We are almost half way through the season and about to break for Christmas and the school holidays. We ask before the break if you could please log in to www.tennis.com.au and confirm you and/or your child/s details if you haven’t already.

This season so far has been really successful with all juniors and Hot Shots participants improving and getting a lot from our wonderful coaches Scott and Olivia Hughes. The Seniors’ teams are all enjoying being active and also getting some great results.

Over Christmas please try and make the most of our new courts and have a hit with friends and family. They are there for you to enjoy and the Summer break is perfect for this. On behalf of the Lobethal Tennis Club Committee we would like to thank you for being members of our Club and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Travel safely, enjoy time with your family and we’ll see you back in late January when the season recommences.

We have been successful in securing an additional grant to cover the full cost of the court screens which will be installed early in the new year. These screens will not only block dust and wind from the car park, they will protect the courts from flying debris and also improve ball visibility for players. The screens, some new picnic tables & bench will be put up in January before the first seniors game.

Your committee.

September 2017

SEPTEMBER 2017

Spring is here, the netball season over, which means the warmer weather and tennis nets up this weekend.   The committee has been very busy in the last couple of weeks and its going to be a great season.  With most teams now submitted to the Hills Tennis Association, we are looking to have some 8 senior day and night teams and a massive 10 junior teams for the new season. We would also like to welcome the Mt Torrens family's and players to the club, and hope you have a great season.  Our Come and Try Day on August 27th was successful and we were delighted to see some new faces.    We just need some sunny weather and the Lobethal Tennis club is ready to win.

Klose's supermarkets are our Major sponsor again for the next 3 years and without the support of this family business over the last 100 years the club would not be where it is today.  Please support our Major sponsor and shop at Klose's.

New wind and dust screens for the courts

In the last 3 years we have upgraded the clubhouse, resurfaced the courts in Australian Blue & have been busy applying for grants to make more improvements to the courts. We are delighted to advise we have been successful in our application for another grant for further upgrade of the playing area at the courts.  The courts can be susceptible to dust blowing off the car park. Mesh screens on 2 sides will substantially reduce the dust storm type wind that blows onto the courts when players are either in coaching or in competition. The impact will promote a safer environment for all ages. The mesh screens will also protect the courts surface from gathering dust and flying objects and make the courts less slippery in the winter for the netball players who play in wet weather. The 70% density of the weave allows only 30% of the wind to flow through the fabric. Dust and wind protection gives longevity to the courts surface also.

We have also voted as a committee to not increase our membership fees and not match surrounding clubs, to try and remain competitive and within reach of families wishing to play tennis.

Bring on Summer and tennis.

AUGUST 2017

After all this rain - we cannot stop thinking about sunshine and getting out on the courts and running around in the sun.  Bring on the Tennis Season!  This means shaking out the legs and its time to start thinking fitness for tennis which is only 2 months away.

The Lobethal Tennis Club has had their AGM and we have new members to the committee bursting with energy and ideas.  With some old faces on the committee and some new, we are getting set for a beauty of a season coming ahead.  Di Farrell is your president, Karin Barry is Vice President & Juniors Recording, Scott Hughes is our coach and also Junior Manager & we are very excited to advise that Olivia Hughes will be coaching this year as well.  We are playing in the Hills Tennis Association and next we are ordering tennis balls and forming teams.

At the end of August there will be a come and try - Sun 27th Aug (10-12 noon). This is a perfect opportunity if you don't have a team to come along and try or if you have not played before - then come along and we will see what we can do.  Start thinking about teams and whether you would like to play Saturday or night competition tennis. Remember, its not too late to try something new or get better at what you already can do.

There are some new team formats for Seniors with Senior Saturdays teams of:
Traditional Div 1 men & women playing doubles best of 3 sets & singles best of 3 sets.  Traditional Div 2 men & women playing doubles best of 3 sets & singles of one set to 9 games
Traditional Div 3 & 4 playing doubles best of 3 sets & singles of one set to 6 games
Mixed Doubles comp -  of Div 2 and lower can be a team of 4 players (being any mix of gender) and each rubber is a 6 game with a tie break at 6 all.
Night Tennis remains unchanged at a 6 game with a tiebreak at 5 all.

Finally if you have used MYOB before or would like to learn, we are in search of a treasurer.  Please contact either Karin or Di on the committee if you are interested.  It is an easy role to hold if you would like to join in.

JUNE 2017

Last night we met and discussed the 2017/18 season as a committee.  The first on the Agenda was planning the AGM on Wednesday 26 July.  At the AGM we will farewell the old committee and welcome the new.

The Lobethal Tennis Club committee is a small group of flexible people who want to help the Tennis club be better.  We would love your help whether it is small or large contribution.  We accept that everyone has busy lives and move the 8 or so committee meetings around everyone's busy lifestyle.  Please join us.  We need your help.

The season ahead is looking good and the club is in a strong position.  We are wanting to make some fresh changes to the clubhouse and offer players more than other clubs.  If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them.

FEBRUARY 2017

Can you believe it’s February already!  For those sentimentalists wasn't having Roger win the Australian Open was fantastic.  Tennis looks so easy when viewed from the lounge, wouldn't it be great if it it could be translated onto the court.

However, it’s time to turn our attention back to our own club and finish the season with some great tennis and good times.  We are now only 4 weeks away from Finals.  So its time to bring out the shots and play your best tennis.

We have experienced some massively hot weather over the last week which meant our junior coaching and Hot Shots programs were made to observe the Hills Tennis Association Heat Policy match guidelines of:

Cancellation of all sessions if the TV weather forecast for Mount Barker is 36 degrees C or higher on the following day

Lobethal Tennis Club committee.

DECEMBER 2016

The resurfacing is complete & it looks and is fantastic.  This photo was taken on Friday night at the Orange ball competition.  A great result for the Lobethal Tennis club and the community.

Our special guests were Rebekha Sharkie MP, Office of Recreation & Sport, Tennis SA & ClubsSA.  We were thrilled to have them visit our courts for some official recognition to thank those who made the resurfacing possible.

Our spring Night Tennis season is almost at the end and we break for Christmas.  The summer Night Tennis season is open for registrations now.  If you are interested in playing in the Mixed Doubles comp on either Tuesday or wednesday nights from January to March - please contact us now on info@lobethaltennisclub.org.

All teams are back following the normal program and wishing you a great week.

August 2016

Spring is fast approaching which means the warmer weather and tennis season is just around the corner, and we are excited.

Our Come and Try Day and Working Bee on August 21st was successful. Getting the nets up after a long winter and the sun shining on the morning made for a great day. Nice to see new members to the 2016/17 season out and hitting the ball and enjoying BBQ brunch.

We also have some exciting news to share…. We are going blue this season. New courts are on the horizon after being successful recipients of grants recently.  We have published a newsletter with more information - please take some time to catch up and get involved.  (click here for newsletter pdf)
Team nominations must be finalised for the Hills Tennis Association by early September so if you are interested in playing this year now is the time to let us know

We are hoping for more seniors to join the ranks this year and are aiming for Seniors Div 1 Mens, Div 1 Ladies and we have a new Div 3 Traditional Mens team together so it’s looking positive. We want more juniors to play up in the senior comp, so if you or your child would like some more tennis – speak up – we want to put you in a team.

We will have a strong representation in our Juniors this year and are hoping to get 8 junior teams on the courts including Orange Ball, Green Ball and Open juniors including a Div 1 Girls and Div 1 Boys. Some of our Hot Shot beginners from last year will be moving up to play on Saturday mornings so it’s looking to be a great season for the juniors already and we wish them a fun season of tennis ahead.

March 2016
We arrived at the end of the Tennis season with 7 out of 9 Saturday competition teams in the finals.  Semi finals all 7 teams were still in it to win it.   On Grand final day we had 5 teams up for the day and what a Grand Final weekend it was. 5 teams playing off for their respective flags and so much great tennis.  A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our 2015/16 Season Premiers:

Girls Division 1  ,  Mens Division 3,  Green Ball Division 2

The Boys Division 2 side came a very close Runners Up, losing to Summertown by ONE GAME and the Traditional Ladies Division 1 team put up a gallant effort against a powerful Stirling unit after injury to #1 lady Mary Harrison in the top doubles.

Over the 5 matches played, there were an amazing 8 tiebreakers with honours going to Jack Maxwell with the highest tiebreak score of 15-13. Thankfully he won that one so it was all worth it!

An AMAZING day for our Club and, as the photos show, much fun had by all.

"The old saying that goes ...  if you treat every match like a grand final, except the grand final which you treat like any other match, we think is a bit of rubbish.  If you don't get goose bumps thinking about playing in the big GF your not focused enough. It's time to find that bit extra and lift for your team mates and your club. So proud of all of you , this has to be one of the most successful years ever.

Commencing:              Wednesday 4th November

Cost:                           $50 per participant

Please complete a registration form and bring it along to the first session.  You may be able to cover the cost of the program with the SA Government Sports Vouchers if you have not yet used the voucher for your child this year.  See the registration form for further details.

The primary school and early-secondary school years are a crucial time during which children acquire coordination and complex technical skills. If they play several games or sports during this period they enjoy significant physical advantages over kids who don’t experience or engage with sport.

Tennis in particular provides countless physical benefits for children of this age. It develops their hand-eye coordination, gross motor control (through court movement and ball striking), fine motor control (through finessed drop shots and angled volleys), balance and body coordination, all the while building acceleration, speed, leg strength, agility and flexibility. Tennis also promotes overall good health in children – improved bone strength and density, and a robust immune system.  From a psychological standpoint, children who play tennis develop skills and strategies that will also serve them well in life off the court.

 Match Centre

This has replaced the Results Vault for competition (results, ladders, fixtures) and player stats.  Karin our Treasurer has spent alot of time working thru the match centre and has been able to enter all team squads (Night and Saturday comps) which is required before match results information can be updated.  She was also able to enter some results so the Lobethal Tennis Club is up to date with results from the first 2 weeks of competition (and one week for juniors).

However, as some Clubs are yet to even get access to the system there is still some time to go before its up and fully operational. On the positive, Australia wide, the HTA is quite ahead of the game and we are certainly leading the way with this new software within SA.  Progress is being made, as areas of the program are being de-bugged, so there is hope that we will be in full operation in a few weeks. If you would like to have a look, you are all able to request a log in to Match Centre http://leagues.tennis.com.au/ and you can search by Club, Competition (League), Team or Player.  Eventually, it will be via these individual log ins that match results are entered each week.

My Tennis

This is an upgrade of the existing membership software and is what is required to be maintained for our players to be covered by Tennis Australia insurance.  Once My Tennis is populated and working OK, we will also have the functionality to use this database as the central point for emailing members and sending SMS messages.   This is great news as it means that this data won’t need to be recreated if records are lost or computers crash.

All Junior & Senior nights & Saturday teams seem to be out there enjoying themselves and playing some great tennis.  So thats all for now.  Enjoy your week.

October 2015

I hope the first 2 weeks of the 15/16 Summer Season went well for you! We had some lovely tennis weather, and from all reports, everyone is up and running and back into it.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Tennis Australia’s new competition management and results software….. At this point, the HTA is unable to enter any match results into the new system as it appears that it has not been fully tested before its release. They are currently working on fixing a number of issues and bugs that have appeared since the software was released on 1 October.

In the meantime, a couple of things for all players to note:

·         Please complete the scoresheet fully before your match begins – this is an official rule and prevents any real or perceived intention to decide who will play who once the first round of doubles is complete. All player names must be filled in before any set begins.

·         All Senior Saturdays home-team players are expected to supply something for afternoon tea – once again this is in our rules, and it makes for an enjoyable and sociable afternoon. It helps build the friendliness and community spirit we are proud of at the HTA.

·         Please be on time to your match. If a player knows they are going to be late, it is a courtesy for the team captain to inform the opposition team well before the match (ie the day before). Negotiations can be made between captains to arrange for that player to start their sets slightly later than the usual start time. Any player who arrives after 2.00 pm forfeits all of their sets for the match.

Hot Shots
Hot Shots will commence on Wednesday November 4 and will run for 5 consecutive weeks. A further 5 weeks will be held in February 2016.  The cost for the 10 week program is $50 and can be fully subsidised by the SA Government Sports Vouchers Program. Registration forms can be downloaded from the website or email

Canteen - A roster will be circulated to juniors (via Team Managers) of teams responsible for supervising the canteen each Saturday. Shifts are either 8.30-10.30 or 10.30-12.30. A baking roster will also been developed so that we can offer fresh cakes/muffins and cookies for sale each week. If you like to bake, or don’t but would like to help out the Club, please contact either Di or Leonie Stafford to offer your services.

State Foundation Cup

Congratulations to Maddie Hughes and Tomas Barry for being selected to represent the Hills/Murray/Fleurieu region in the Foundation Cup event held in Berri over the October school holidays. Maddie’s team (Under 13 Girls) took out their age group and Tomas’ team (Under 15 Boys) came a very close second.  Both had an extremely enjoyable week in the Riverland, playing against teams from all areas of regional SA.

The other big push is Fast 4 Tennis – Tennis Australia want Clubs to run their own comps in Feb 2016.  Will be aimed at people who love to play tennis but are not able to commit to competition (short, midweek commitment required only with no traveling to away courts).

Bring on the Tennis Season and lets get on the court!

October 2015

The Seniors night tennis started this week, teams and draws on the 'Teams' tab on the following pages.  Remember to stretch and warm up before you play and most importantly enjoy it.  Senior Saturdays start this weekend so good luck to the Div 1 Traditional Ladies and good luck to the newly formed Div 3 Traditional Mens team.  Go Tigers.

Juniors - We nominated a total of 7 sides for the season and final gradings are:

Girls: Div 1, Div 2 and Div 5

Boys: Div 2 and Div 8

Green ball: Div 2 and Div 4

A huge “Thank You” to those parents who have volunteered to team manage this year. Your support on game days is very important and greatly appreciated by the Committee, players and fellow parents.  The draws for junior matches are still being finalised. We hope to have this information ready for distribution very soon and it will also be available on teams page soon.

Junior coaching will commence on Tuesday October 13 and will continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the season. Those interested in coaching have been sent their coaching groups and times individually.

Tennis Australia have launched new software to manage Club membership and Competitions. The “go live” date for the software was 1 October and there have been some teething problems which have delayed the publishing of draws for both senior and junior competitions.

The HTA are making some progress but it may be some weeks before match results are updated for viewing online.  We are being well updated by the HTA and are confident that we will eventually have access to a great resource where players can track their team and individual progress.

13 February

Tennis Mania held on Saturday 7 February was a huge success.  We doubled our numbers with lots of new faces and more and more members getting on court.  We had some of the best players in the hills playing with people and kids who have never picked up a racket.  Some people dressed up, and some people dressed down.  We had it all.

Thank you to the very generous donations of wine, cider, beer and of course the very yummy BBQ by Onkaparinga Meats.

Thank you to our Club Members who came along and supported our club - we wouldn't be here without you.

And of course - last but not least - Thank you to the tireless committee who worked so hard leading up organising the event, set up, played and cleaned up.

It was a great social night for all ages and was so good to see some of the best Tennis players in the Hills join the court with people who picked up a tennis racquet for the first time. I think the youngest was 5 and the oldest player on the court played like a teenager. A great night.

THANK YOU from the Lobethal Tennis Club

2 February 2015

January 2015

And from our Scott Hughes who said "An exhaustive week of tennis that's taken a few days to get over. I've been lucky enough over the years to play sport with some amazing people but that doesn't compare to playing sport with your own kids. One very proud dad at the moment."

Now get on the court and have some fun!

20 October 2014

The second week of the tennis season and we are now in full swing.  The juniors have now hit the courts and we have seen some really good tennis.  Some of our juniors have never played tennis before and won games which all things considering a first game, nerves is a really great result.  Well done beginners.  Then our more experienced juniors were back on the courts running around being active.  Congratulations juniors on week 1.

Our Hot Shots program is set to start in the first week of November .... stay tuned for more details.

Canteen on Saturday mornings
We had cupcakes, anzac biscuits, ice blocks, drinks and some treats for sale yesterday along with coffee and tea. The canteen sales are all a fundraiser as we have decided to not sell the box's of take home chocolates to sell.  So support your club and have a cup of tea and cake.  All very reasonably priced.  A roster is being developed which will require teams to take turns in manning the canteen for either 8.30 – 10.30 or 10.30 – 12.30.  Team Managers and parents that are sitting at the clubhouse side of the courts are asked to keep an eye on the canteen and assist with sales.  A few sales each weeks makes a big difference to the club.

Have you looked up the Tennis SA 'results vault'  Have a look at the following Tennis SA website and search thru.

Go to Tennis SA results vault

Match results are recorded each week and as the season progresses, you can monitor the ladder, Club results and individual stats.  Suggest you have a look – its pretty interesting once the season gets going.

13 October and back to school.

Our Club is affiliated with the Hills Tennis Association and they have just updated the 'Rules of Match and Play'.  Now is a good time to turn to the TEAMS page and download the rules and scan thru them.

Week 1 of Seniors is now complete with great weather providing perfect conditions for our wonderful game. Here are the results:

Tuesday Nights Div 1 "Aces" won 6 - 0
Tuesday Nights Div 3 "H.A.R.D. Hitters" won 6 - 0
Saturday Mens Div 3 lost 1 - 5
Saturday Ladies Div 2 won 5 - 1

A great start for our Club

Junior Saturday comp commences on Saturday and all families have been sent an email with their location and time for the first game and day and time for coaching (if applicable).

Our Hot Shots program is set to start in the first week of November .... stay tuned for more details.

We are intending to run a canteen on Saturday mornings as both an ongoing fundraiser, and to add to the “tennis experience” for both players and spectators.  We plan to sell homemade cakes/biscuits, tea, coffee, cool drinks, ice blocks and some treats.  A roster is being developed which will require teams to take turns in manning the canteen for either 8.30 – 10.30 or 10.30 – 12.30.  As Team Managers, please ask parents (or players) if they would be willing to assist with this throughout the year.  A canteen roster will be distributed before Saturday and we will treat Week #1 as a trial run with our President on hand to make sure all runs smoothly.

  1. All teams have a minimum of 5 players.  History has shown that this is necessary and indeed some of our players are not available for the entire season this year.  It is strongly encouraged to play all 5 players in the lower grades each week.  This ensures there are no long breaks between play and assists with the players development and improvement.  The higher division teams may wish to develop a roster to rotate weeks off – leave this up to you to discuss with the players/parents.

  1. Match results are recorded each week on the Tennis SA “results vault” http://comps.tennis.com.au/controls/3/home.aspx As the season progresses, you can monitor the ladder, Club results and individual stats.  Suggest you have a look – its pretty interesting once the season gets going.

That’s it for now we think!

September 24, 2014

Our Registration/Come & Try days in August were fun, and it was great to see people coming out to participate, soak up the sun and have a hit.

This month we’d like to give a big special welcome to our new members who have registered. It’s great to have you as part of our club, and we hope you enjoy the season ahead. Welcome back also to our past members, we all have a fantastic Summer of tennis in front of us.

Three new sponsors have also joined us: Kwik Kopy Norwood, Kleeman’s Funerals and Hughes Construction. Mark Goldsworthy MP has come on board again as a gold sponsor along with Klose’s Foodland as our Major Sponsor. Thank you for your support. We look forward to a great partnership and we appreciate your generosity.

Our club has registered for Hot Shots and we are now planning the season which runs over 10 weeks starting at the beginning of November, breaking over Christmas and then starting again in February. Hot Shots is a fantastic initiative that allows kids to become familiar with the game of tennis in a fun environment. They learn the basic rules of tennis and how to serve, score and rally. The courts are smaller and children play with low compression balls that don’t bounce as high which is ideal to support the development of new players. If you are interested in registering your child, it’s not too late.

Time to get out onto the court and hit out those cobwebs. The nets will be up soon at the Lobethal Recreation Ground and our courts will be professionally cleaned in the coming weeks, so be sure to pop by and have a hit.

News & Teams

A huge “thank you” to those who attended our recent Registration Days and/or have shown interest in playing tennis for our Club in the upcoming season.

We are still working on our teams for submission to the HTA in the coming weeks but we are confident that we will have:

· 4 night tennis teams;

· A Saturday afternoon Div 2 Traditional Ladies;

· A Saturday afternoon Div 2 Traditional Men; and

· A full range of junior teams: orange ball, green ball, girls and boys

In addition to this, we will be running the Hots Shots program for our future players and Scott Hughes will be running junior coaching for those who are keen to work on their game.

Full access to the courts will be possible after the netball season is over and we will be providing details of practice and coaching nights shortly

For those who have not yet completed one, a 2014/15 season Registration Form is available as a pdf download from the 'Information' page. Please complete the 2 page form and return via email, or post to PO Box 93 Lobethal.

We ask that every player completes one of these forms please.

Of course it is not too late to register your interest but time is running out – if you are keen to play, have some coaching, or participate in Hots Shots, complete the attached form and return to the Committee.

Thanks for your support!

Lobethal Tennis Club Commitee

August 2014,  Registration days

Welcome to the 2014/2015 season!

The new season kicks off on the 7th October 2014. We will be holding registration days late in August as our teams need to be submitted to the Hills Tennis Association early in September.

Playing tennis on a regular basis has so many benefits: it’s a lot of fun and a fantastic way to socialise with friends and meet new people. It can also help maintain or improve balance, mobility, agility, strength and fitness, and it’s a great way to burn calories.

Our home courts are at the Lobethal Recreation Ground and we can accommodate a maximum of 4 teams for each Night or Saturday afternoon competition and up to 8 Junior teams.

The Lobethal Tennis Club has a proud history of producing quality tennis players. We had a successful 2013/2014 season with half of our junior teams competing in finals. We provide lots of support for our junior players with coaching opportunities available as a part of their fees. They are encouraged to represent the Hills Tennis Association at the annual Country Carnival each January and many participate in the Hills closed tournament each year. A number of our current junior members are also representing the Hills in representative teams.

Four senior teams took to the court for Lobethal in 2013/2014 (2 night teams and 2 traditional Saturday afternoon teams). Our Night Division 2 team and the Traditional Ladies Division 3 White teams both took the season premiership.

We have a wonderful new clubhouse within the Lobethal Recreation Ground, which was erected in 2014 and this facility provides a fantastic sheltered space to watch the tennis action, storage for our equipment and a kitchen for refreshments. The Lobethal Tennis Club is looking for new members and would like you to consider playing for our Club, or recommending our Club to people who might be looking for a team for the 2014/15 season.

Whether it is social or competition tennis you are looking for – we would like to welcome you to become a Tiger and join in the fun!

Kind regards

Di Farrell

President

Saturday Afternoon Competition

The Lobethal Tennis Club is seeking EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST from all Senior players who are interested in playing in teams in season 2014/15 (commencing October 2014).

Teams are already being formed by other clubs and we need a firm commitment from players wanting to support OUR CLUB and enjoy our fantastic new facilities.

We are aiming for 4 senior Saturday afternoon teams in 2014/15 season (the maximum we can accommodate) and from interest to-date, we anticipate we will be nominating the following:

  • DIVISION ONE – Traditional Mens
  • DIVISION TWO – Traditional Ladies
  • DIVISION THREE – Mixed Doubles

The above 3 teams are starting to take shape and we have already received names for the teams, however please let us know if you might be interested in these formats.  The 4th team could be ANYTHING – Traditional Men's (min 4 men/boys required), Traditional Women's (min 4 ladies/girls required) or Doubles format (min 4 men/boys and 4 ladies/girls).  Make it your own!!

We have a lot of talented Junior Tiger players so please consider supporting these players to make the step up to afternoon tennis.

Night Tennis

We have 2 teams that traditionally register every year for the TUESDAY comp – however if Tuesday does not suite – then the Hills comp also offers a Wednesday nights competition also.  Night tennis is a fantastic option for those people who don’t want to commit to weekends, or those who want to keep playing through the “off” season.

Midweek Tennis

This option is ideally suited to those players who do not fancy playing on a cold evening and who have time on a Tuesday morning for some exercise.

TENNIS MANIA

Although not a huge fundraiser, TENNIS MANIA was a huge success. Everyone who attended the night enjoyed both the food and the format of the tournament.

Preparation and co-ordination was a team effort with many people helping out – but mainly the Trad. Div 3 Women (White).

DanaTuesner prepared the menu and ordered food. Ian Barry and Karin Barry organized the tournament and other games. Kelly Golding and Kristen Beltrame spent mostof the night on the BBQ, and Di Farrell oversaw the night. Michael Stafford,Mark Muller and Phil Herrmann helped set up and ran the bar.

We would like to thank the generous businesses who donated items for the Silent Auction. A list is included on the next page. Please return the support of these people whenever possible.

Tennis Club House Grand Opening & Fundraiser

Check your diaries and pencil in right now Saturday 22nd February @ 6.30 pm for a night to come and join us and to support your club at and on the Tennis Courts.  The fundraiser will go ahead in all weather – so please come along.

We have invited Mark Goldsworthy (our local member) to come and officially open the clubhouse, as he played a big part in the success of the grant we received.  Then we have broken tradition and gone for an event on the courts, with a BBQ dinner, drinks and games for both adult and kids to be involved in rather than confined to the clubrooms.  There will be of course a table of a few silent auctions and prizes for the Tennis tournament.

So please come along and support your Tennis club & be there for the official opening & help us raise a little bit more for putting back into your club facilities.

If you would like more information on the tournament, within the next week there will be more details on the website for our  ‘Tennis Mania Challenge’ and the Rules of play.    In a nutshell players adults and juniors are randomly paired up and will be in either a round robin or knock out format.  If you do not wish to play – just come along for the social.  We are also looking at bringing the new ball machine out and involving it in the fundraiser also.  So the night can be whatever you want to make of it.

December 2013
Country Carnival

Congratulations

As you may have seen in this week’s Courier the Hills association won the John Fitzgerald shield again this year. Did you count how many photos of Scott Hughes there were? And for good reason. Scott Hughes was the No.1 player in the victorious Mens Div. 1 team which also included Ian Barry and David Mullins who are also associated with our club. Tomas Barry’s team won the 12 yr old Boys Div. Lobethal girls who competed were Olivia, Bonnie, Breeanna, Abbie, Lara, Erica, Kiara, Maddie and Jenna.

A terrific representation by Lobethal Tennis club.

November 2013

Rodeo

Once again the Tennis Club teamed up with the other sporting groups to provide catering at the Rodeo under the direction of the Rec. Ground Committee. Due to low attendance, the Rec Ground unfortunately made a financial loss but it was great to see the clubs working together and it was heartening that many of our members volunteered to take on a shift.

Thankyou to : Marcel Smith, Shane Skinner, Margy Seidel, Di Farrell, Scott Hughes, Helen Keightley, Danielle Helbers and partner Paul, Michael and Leonie Stafford, Lara Herrmann, Ian Barry

Although some of us did very little, your willingness to be the there was very much appreciated.
